Election or Selection?

We had the general election in our country, Nigeria on the 25th February. This was for both presidential and house of assembly. It was supposed to be a free and fair election but it didn't turn out that way. Let me give you a back story. Nigerians went out to cast their votes in different states and in this election, there was a rising number of first time voters and young people coming out to cast their votes. People complained about the late coming of inec officials but nevertheless there was still the resilience of Nigerians to wait to cast their votes because at this point everyone is tired of this country and need a change in government. There were reports of violence, people were disenfranchised and intimidated. A person belonging to a particular party at the a polling unit would just say if you are not voting his party then people should leave that polling unit. I mean and there were police officers there?!? There was stealing of ballot boxes and papers and destruction of some polling units.

It came to the time for them to count the votes and announce the president but this took forever so that they could continue rigging and manipulating the votes. For context, I didn't vote because I didn't have my pvc and before I knew it registration for pvc's had closed. I was so frustrated through out this election period and I was wondering to myself, since I didn't vote and I'm this frustrated, how much more people that actually went out to cast their votes and waited till their votes were counted. It's really draining honestly seeing them forcing down a president that the majority of Nigerians didn't vote for. After the announcement of the president-elect, I started wondering to myself is this really a democratic country or a military or dictatorship country? This past election made me to start watching the news which I normally don't do. The funny thing is that most of these politicians don't care about the people. They have sold their conscience and morality to their love of money. A person that would pay millions of dollars just to ensure his victory, whether people are hungry or die on the way he doesn't care as long as he ensures his victory. I would never tag that as a good person.

Right now Peter Obi has come out to reclaim his mandate challenging them to court and in as much as some people are saying he shouldn't go that the court to is corrupt, I still have hope and I believe that God will be with him throughout this period because we all need him in this country because to find another good man in this Nigeria politics, running as president would be hard. We can't continue suffering in this country because of an incompetent leader. All I have to say now is it is well.
